Holding on to childhood joy - Children give a chance to revisit your youth

Most places I go, I act a little crazy.
Read that again to the tune of the Billy Thorpe’s classic if you wish, it works well.
Ah, yes, life’s a tune... in fact it’s just grand when I’m holding Billy’s (son, not  Thorpe) hand.
Apologies for the theatrics, but we’ve just been to see Mary Poppins. It wasn’t so much the show that was the highlight for me ... afterwards we skipped through the Royal Arcade together, singing Chim-Chimeny.
We skip through life together, Billy and I.
Most places I go, I travel that way, hand-in-hand with my five-year-old son. But I know I’m on borrowed time.
Sad, how the exquisite joys of his childhood are slightly wearied by the knowledge it will all too soon be a memory. A sweet memory.
The perfect example is walking together.
He gives me so much just by dawdling by my side and he doesn’t even realise it.
When Billy’s too old to hold my hand, I know there’ll be no more skipping in public for me. No more jumping over footpath cracks or swinging a small boy on the count of three.
Happiness is playing hopscotch on the big square pavers outside the Town Hall. I’d be put away if I did that by myself.
