Third-placed Bendigo Fighting Miners lived up to their name in a hard-fought rugby union clash with competition leaders the Cobram Dust Devils last weekend.
In the windy conditions at Shadforth Park, Cobram had first use of the breeze and quickly opened up a 14 to 0 lead before the Miners regrouped.
Through the strong efforts of Konrad Fepuleai the team was able to break through the Cobram defence to score.
Bendigo continued to attack after the long break but found it difficult to penetrate the Dust Devils’ backline and the visitors were out to an 11-point lead.
It was experienced Bendigo prop Nick Poingdestre who turned the game around with a crashing run through the Cobram defence to score.
Josh Manderson duly converted to bring the margin back to four points.
Michael Crichton had the fans at Shadforth Park cheering with a try wide out and he then followed up with another.
Josh Manderson again showed great touch with the conversion which saw the Fighting Miners snatch victory over the Cobram Dust Devils.
Best players for Bendigo were Denhert, Crichton, Tuitupou, Fallaver and Manderson.
On Saturday the Bendigo Fighting Miners will meet the Border Army at Shadforth Park at 3pm.
