THREE university friends have joined the next big thing online, PlanBig, to help them trade up from a single egg to one million dollars, to be donated to three Australian charities.
The boys are well on their way – they’ve already traded from an egg to a car to $2200.
PlanBig (www.planbig.com.au) is a new website where anyone with a plan or an idea can access the resources and support to make their plan happen in the real world.
The Bendigo and Adelaide Bank initiative is the contemporary iteration of the bank’s core approach, now drawing on the strengths of social networking to facilitate community outcomes.
The bank’s motivation is to help its customers and partners succeed, and the communities and districts it operates in to flourish.
The team consists of architecture students Christopher ‘CJ’ Wright, Josh O’Meara and Andrew ‘Finchy’ Fincher.
They are using the new community site to help plan, seek support and promote their 1egg1world project – an initiative to raise one million dollars by trading up from an egg laid by Mr Fincher’s pet chook.
So far they have traded their egg and moved forward with other trades including a Coneheads Soundtrack CD, a digital camera and novelty clock and even a 1988 Toyota Camry.
The trio recently parted ways with a Don Bradman-signed cricket bat for $2200.
“We originally got the idea for 1egg1world from Kyle McDonald – he started off with a red paperclip and traded it up until he eventually ended up with a two-storey house in Canada,” Mr Fincher said.
“We thought if he can do it for his own personal gain, why can’t we do it to help people out.
“We joined PlanBig because we wanted all the help we could get.
“For us the ideal benefit of PlanBig is insight – you can put questions up and ask for advice from people you don’t necessarily already know, and people will respond with ideas,” Mr O’Meara said.
“We are not going to stop until we reach our one million dollar target, but this is just the start for us; we have big plans for future charity projects,” Mr Wright said.
Bank managing director Mike Hirst said budding entrepreneurs, dreamers, creative thinkers, community leaders and anyone with a bright idea should visit the site.
“Everyone can PlanBig. I encourage anyone with an idea, or expertise they want to share, to have a look at www.planbig.com.au and be part of this growing new community,” he said.
“The site is a home for people with a shared interest or common goal.
“You can log in and plan your project with the help of other planners, or join up and support other people’s plans.”
The 1egg1world project will see the money raised shared between three charities: Cool Australia, EarInfoNet and OrphFund.
