BENDIGO'S two State Government MPs have responded to weeks of bad publicity about the city's violence and anti-social behaviour problems.

Jacinta Allan and Bob Cameron will hold a round-table discussion with relevant Bendigo organisations to "discuss the next wave of measures to protect Bendigo's safety" a joint statement reads.

"Bendigo is a great city where families can feel safe and young people can move about freely," the statement from the two MPs said.

"While overall crime has reduced in the last year, there has been a much-higher focus on anti-social behaviour.

"Unfortunately from time to time a small handful of idiots can ruin a night out or cause trouble by stupid alcohol-fuelled antics."

Latest police statistics showed crime Against The Person jumping more than seven per cent in Bendigo last year, compared to the year before.

"There has been a long history in Bendigo of the police, the council and local agencies working together through the Bendigo Safe Community Forum to address issues around actual and perceived levels of violence," the two MPs said.

"We want to build on this record and work on new ways to make sure our community feels safe and is safe."

The round table will be held on Friday at 11am at the Town Hall.
