Stage Two looms

BENDIGO is likely to move to Stage Two water restrictions on October 1.
Coliban Water yesterday announced it was “probable” the restrictions would be eased, and stay that way for most of summer.

The board will make its final decision on September 15, as revealed by the Bendigo Weekly last month.

Stage Two allows hand-held hoses to be used on gardens at any time.
It also allows manual sprinklers on gardens using the odds and evens schedule between 7am and 9am, and 5pm and 7pm.

Automatic sprinklers are allowed between midnight and 4am.

Cars can be washed and rinsed using a bucket.

Bendigo has enough water to go to Stage One, but chairman John Brooke said the board was being conservative.

“One wet winter doesn’t mean we can forget the need to focus on long-term water security,” he said.

Castlemaine will also move to Stage Two restrictions, as will Heathcote.
Kyneton will remain on Stage Three.

Other towns in other systems will have their water restrictions eased.

In the past eight weeks, Coliban Water’s three catchment storages near Malmsbury have more than doubled to 50 per cent of capacity, and winter rain has boosted water availability in most of its other supply systems.
