Simpkin House springs into its own race carnival

Local News Simpkin House Race Carnival #531
BENDIGO Health’s Simpkin House hosted a Melbourne Cup carnival on Tuesday.
The carnival featured the horse race, animal farm and party atmosphere for residents and friends as part of its innovative Reduction of Psychotropic Medication program.
Residential Services nursing manager Marlene Connaughton said that Simpkin House usually hosted an annual show day, but due to inclement weather the day was postponed and Melbourne Cup was a perfect replacement.
“We hold the day to allow our residents and their families to experience the carnival atmosphere in a supported environment,” she said.
“The residents have been busy decorating hats for the day and prizes were awarded for the best hats.
“To add to the Melbourne Cup atmosphere, staff on brooms were
involved in a Melbourne Cup -style race.”
Simpkin House is a
secure dementia facility.
