Ladies honour Cup tradition

Local News Ladies honour cup tradition #531
FOR 12 years, a group of Bendigo ladies have gathered together on Melbourne Cup Day for an afternoon of fun, creative fashion and fundraising.
It’s a day which is not about the money.
They flutter with 20-cent pieces ... the only currency used for the day. As far as what to wear, the ladies are limited to spending $10 each.
It was $5, but with GST the budget had to be
extended.
“We have dabbled with the art of milinary, with some award-winning hats over the years,” they said.
The women joined many others who wondered if the major racing event would take place.
“Naturally we had fears when the equine influenza broke out in August and its impact on the Spring Racing Carnival.”
“Today we will stop to watch the race that captures the nation, but we’ll also be keeping an eye on local trainer Shane Fliedner’s horse Hoodlum, who is running in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes at 3.50pm. This year we are also fundraising for the Brave Hearts team for Relay for Life 2008.”
