Recycled Water Project Under Way
By Bendigo Weekly
Local News Recycled project #531
AFTER lengthy delays in the planning process, the first sod of soil has been turned for the Bendigo Health recycled water project.
The project will save about 60 megalitres (or 200 households) of drinking water annually by switching to class A recycled water for Bendigo Health’s Loddon Linen Service.
The pipeline will run from the Epsom-Spring Gully pipeline to the commercial laundry in Mercy Street.
“With the increased demand on water from our existing catchment areas this project offers benefits to all stakeholders,” Bendigo Health executive director of buildings and infrastructure David Walker said.
“We are always looking for ways to use our natural resources more efficiently.
“We are looking at other ways this recycled water can be used.
“We also have made other significant
water savings in the past 12 months with consumption reduced by 100,000 litres per day on the hospital campus alone.”
Mr Walker said the delays came from
Coliban Water.
“I think the whole recycled water issue has taken all water authorities by surprise and they had to get their standards together,” he said.
“We were ready to go four months ago.”
It is planned the works will be completed within four weeks.
