Hospital to suffer
THE Bendigo Hospital is set to suffer from a fall out between local football authorities and Blue Ribbon Foundation.
At a Tuesday night meeting, Blue Ribbon Foundation state manager Neil Soullier was told his organisation would not be involved in the February 2008, major event.
Mr Soullier told radio 3BO Bendigo Football League chairman Damian Drum took this stance, a move reportedly backed by VCFL chief Glenn Scott.
Historically, proceeds from the match have gone to the hospital – a figure generally surpassing the $40,000 mark.
That amount is also matched dollar for dollar by the foundation itself.
However, Bendigo Football League chairman Damian Drum said it’s time to take and stand.
“We have this one golden egg that comes up every year,” Mr Drum said.
“And we must use these proceeds to help build our infrastructure and facilities in this region.
“I’m talking football and netball clubs in four different league’s that fall under our administration, including juniors.
“It is the state government’s responsibility to adequately fund the Bendigo Hospital, not the proceeds of a match that is run by sporting people for sporting clubs.”
Mr Drum stated a donation would be given to the Blue Ribbon Foundation, but conceded it would be “nowhere near” half.
