Kylie’s parking mad
By Anthony Radford
CBD resident unhappy with parking changes
ANOTHER CBD resident has come out against the City of Greater Bendigo council’s new car parking strategy.
The council has turned 10 45-degree angle car parks either side of Kylie Clark’s driveway in Mollison Street into 16 90-degree spaces.
She was so unhappy with the changes, under the cover of darkness she went outside and painted a couple of them out with black paint. “I literally have to reverse across both lands of traffic to get out of my driveway because the parks are so close to my driveway and they are on such a tight angle,” she said.
“I can’t see at all.
“If there is a big four wheel drive parked next to my driveway I have to blindly come out and assume people are going to stop for me.
‘To get in my driveway I have to swerve out onto the other side of the road and turn in.”
The mother of two was in little doubt the council had got its priorities wrong.
“I don’t mind them increasing the amount of parking around the place, but it needs to be safe.
“The council needs to build this multi-storey car park instead of band-aid fixes that are making it unsafe.”
Council acting chief executive officer Jos Duivenvoorden said Mrs Clark’s driveway was not unsafe.
“What we have done there is safe,” he said. “With the traffic speeds and volume there, we think it is an excellent area for these spaces.
“On-site inspections have been made following the spotting out and some minor amendments were made before the bays were marked.
“It is not intended to undertake any further amendments at this point.”

Once again a typical blundering council have no idea and couldn't care less about anybody but their own nest.
I know a person in Garsed street has the same problem and the same stupid dimwit council statements.
This owner has to park on the otherside of the Street because they can't see getting out of their own driveway.

What have i said before piss this crowd off and lets do it quickly.

    VicRoads Licensing handbook states that
"you must not leave a stationary vehicle where you would leave less than three metres of road clear for traffic"
I wonder if the council's new parking arrangements abides by this rule?

Happy New Year to The City of Greater Bendigo, and nothing ever changes, once again the all powerful council refuses to hear what ratepayers have to say about the streets that THEY live in about concerns over planning and execution, and we have a new CEO who admires and respected the late John Mc Lean, I'm sure the people who live in Epsom and Huntly are delighted to know that still the majority of their legitimate concerns will once again be IGNORED.

I would like to know what sort of a car Kylie Clark drives and if she knows how to back out of a parking spot at all. If she is driving a big 4WD then bad luck but if she cant manouver her car in and out of her driveway then she must just be a bad driver. I would suggest practicing her technique. As for all the council bashers I am assuming that in the upcoming council election i will be seeing Big John, Jane Grindrod, Gemma and John Sheen's names on the ballet. Good luck to you all.

To Chuck NO-Name/No-Email: Please read the damn article correctly before dumping on the hapless Kylie Clark.

SHE doesn't drive a "big 4WD", she said if one is parked near her drive it makes seeing the roadway difficult while exiting.

This "we've inspected the site and deem it satisfactory and safe" is just another example of typical council "we don't give a stuff about you" bulls**t.

Did the council "inspectors" actually PARK some large vehicles close to Mrs Clark's driveway and then sit in Mrs Clark's car while she tried to exit her driveway? (Don't bother answering that - we know already). Doing so would have been too much like plain, old-fashioned common sense.

Suggestion to Mrs Clark: Have your lawyers send a letter on your behalf to the Acting CEO and all councillors of the not-so-Great City of Bendigo, stating your safety concerns in fine detail, and spelling out in chapter and verse that should (when) you have an accident as a result of their mis-managed parking implementation, you will hold said CEO, Mayor, Councillors, City Engineers etc. etc. personally responsible and sue their backsides off.

No the council couldn't give a toss mate, in my mates street everyday there are 4 wheel drives parked on each side of his driveway and no matter what car you may have you can't see, so he has to park on the opposite side of the road and to rub hise nose in it he even got a ticket for parking across the street to long because he forgot to move his car.
Compliments of the dimwit hick Bendigo council.

They have also done this in the street I park in everyday to go to work. It was hard enough to see when backing out already but now having to back blindly across both lanes is just stupid. How many car parks did this gain in this street? One or two? Definitely not worth it! Change it back!

The solution to the parking problem is simple. It doesnt invlove wasting millions of our dollars to build useless multi story carparks. I suggest that we provide free parking at Lake weeroona and the Joss House. then it would be a matter of having a tram running in the mornings and evenings for business people and during the day for shoppers. Hopefully this would stop everyone trying to park in the city centre and giving people another option of getting into the city. Why couldnt it work? Someone please tell me why this idea hasnt been raised before. It is just common sense.

By the way: Ms Clark said that there were big 4WD parked next to her driveway but she didnt say what type of car she has. I dont see how it is any different to parking in a shopping centre. The speed of the travelling cars just needs to be lowered to the appropriate level.
