The right angle?
BENDIGO’S CBD traders have urged a public call-to-arms in a bid to build a multi-storey car park in the city.
The Bendigo Traders
Association is calling for the general public to become active in pushing for the facility, through them and to the City of Greater Bendigo council.
BTA spokesperson Jane Mildren said the new 90-degree car parking solution, as highlighted in the Bendigo Weekly, was only  a Band Aid solution to the city’s parking crisis.
“We are in dire need of extra long-term spaces, not Band Aid solutions,” she said.
“We need spaces where people can park and go to a multitude of shops over a long period of time.
“Our position is a multi-storey car park is the best way to achieve that.”
The BTA will meet with the council next week to discuss the future of the multi-storey car park.
Mrs Mildren urged the public to get behind the push for a multi-storey car park.
“If the general public are looking for a multi-storey car park it would be nice for the general public to become pro-active,” she said.
“Let’s get a bit of positive momentum happening here and let’s get their voices behind the long-term car parking plan.
“People can write a letter to us so we can let council know this is the way people want to go.”
Mrs Mildren said Band Aid solutions would not allow the city to reach its potential.
“For a shopping centre and a city that wants to continue to grow, we have to have this sort of infrastructure in place,” she said.
“It is done quite happily in other centres, so why can’t it happen here?
“We need another multi-storey car park, probably two down the track.”
