The aim of the 2007 Bendigo Hospital Appeal was to raise more than last year’s total

IT was a case of third time lucky for the Bendigo hospital as it
unveiled the result of its Christmas appeal fundraiser yesterday.
The hospital raised almost $124,000 during the 2007 appeal, the largest amount in its three-year history.
Hospital fundraising manager Gloria Turner said rehabilitation was the focus of the 2007 appeal, with all funds raised buying state-of-the-art specialised equipment to assist patients who, due to stroke, debilitating diseases, accident or amputation, require rehabilitation.
“This new equipment, which has already started to arrive, will allow patients to return to Bendigo near family and friends for rehabilitation rather than lengthy stays in Melbourne,” she said.
“The aim of the 2007 Bendigo Hospital Christmas Appeal was to raise more than last year’s total of $103,000.
“This amount would re-equip our in-patient rehabilitation area, supply equipment for physiotherapists and occupational therapists to use across all patient areas within Bendigo Health.”
The first appeal was launched in 2005 and raised $50,000 for the emergency department and maternity units. Last year’s appeal saw $103,000 raised to assist new Bendigo babies by funding isolets and other medical equipment for the Special Care Baby Unit.
Each year the Bendigo Hospital Christmas Appeal becomes more accepted as part of Christmas activities in Bendigo.
This success means that more money can be directly donated to the hospital.
“We should be able to equip our hospital to the standard of other large hospitals; our community deserves this as much as other communities,” Mrs Turner said.
“By working hard to attract philanthropic funding and developing our Christmas appeal we can achieve great things.
“Thanks must go to our
wonderful sponsors, without their ongoing support and friendship we could not reach our goals.”
The following organisations were the main sponsors of the appeal, and donated time, effort and money: 3BO / Star FM, Bendigo Toyota, Hume and Iser, Danny Clapp The Good Guys, REIV, BMP – Total Image Management, Challenges Accepted, Filthy Monkey Productions, Andrew Pascoe Productions, Bendigo Weekly, McIntosh Signs, IGA supermarkets, RegionalOne Credit Union and PRIME Television.
