Hey dee ho music
Established in 1987, hey dee ho music is a unique learning experience for children. Because they love music so much, as they sing, dance, use puppets, dress up and play instruments, little do they realise how much they are learning. Set up in conjunction with the “Australian Institute of Music and Childhood Development”, the hey dee ho music program is presented to maximise the learning process. Jodie Field together with her husband David and three young children moved to Bendigo nearly three years ago to introduce Bendigo and the Macedon Regions to the wonderful world of music. “We now have two new programs. Saturday classes for yoga and funky music classes where they learn to sing, dance and act. “It’s the most rewarding job,” said Jodie. “All the smiles and cuddles I get from the children when they recognize a song or collect a puppet is priceless; it always turns a bad day good,” she added. Jodie also runs classes at the Bendigo Special Development School. Hey dee ho has classes for parents and children with disabilities and it is due to re-commence shortly on Friday mornings. Every week at hey dee ho is an adventure. One week the theme might be going for a walk in the garden, the next week sailing on the sea. The program incorporates strategies to address many basic components of childhood development such as cognitive learning, fine and gross motor skills, visual and auditory processing and memory, language, social skills, self, control, spatial awareness, imaginative play and endorsing appropriate behaviour. Jodie also includes Auslan Signing into the program. When signing is used in conjunction with verbal language it can enhance comprehension and expression and aid in improving communication skills. hey dee ho music also offers regular music sessions and concerts and they are available for formal and informal groups – childcare centres, playgroups, pre-schools and mothers groups.
