Strathfieldsaye cricketer in line for $10,000 funding
Strathfieldsaye Cricket Club is a finalist in the nationwide HOME Timber and Hardware Home Grown Sporting Moments competition. Thanks to local club member Lachlan Howard sending in home grown footage of his hat-trick performance against Eaglehawk, the Strathfieldsaye club is a big chance win $10,000 but they need the support of all the community to register their vote. Lachlan entered the competition because his dad was lucky enough to have his Panasonic home video camera with him at the ground to capture the magic moment on that special day of his bowling feat with figures of 4 for 6. After seeing the competition advertised on TV he submitted an entry and is now into the final judging against NSW clubs Coleambally Junior Rugby League Club and the Maitland District Hockey Club. Lachlan has been playing competitive cricket for just three seasons and trains with the Strathfieldsaye under 15 team every Thursday night. The 14-year-old is a Year 8 student at Creek Street Christian College and down the track he would like to make a career in the advertising and marketing field. But right now he is just happy to see all the community get behind him and help bring the $10,000 cash prize back to Bendigo. “All my friends have been great,” Lachlan said. “As soon as I told them that I was in the final three, they told me it was awesome. “They are all amazed that our local cricket club is in a great position to win such a large amount of money. “My friends are all getting their mobiles out and registering their vote. “The cricket club has set up a network to get all the players, sponsors and supporters as well as the general community behind our effort,’’ Lachlan said. Proud dad Alan Howard is thrilled that the Strathfieldsaye Cricket Club is in the running for such a major prize. “On the video they show on the television commercial you see Lachlan sending down a yorker on middle stump to complete the hatrick,” Alan said. “All his team mates rush in to congratulate him. “It was just great that we were able to capture the magic moment and see all of the excitement on the field. “It was just pure chance that I had the camera rolling,’’ Alan said.
