Cyclists and shooters pull in the crowds
This weekend, we welcome thousands of visitors to our sports mad city.
The Bendigo International Madison is one of the biggest events to be staged in this city and the weekend of racing starts this evening with the criterium through the streets of Bendigo.
This year we welcome
cyclists from the Netherlands, USA, Argentina and Canada.
Then there is a great line-up of local heroes like Glenn O’Shea, Tim Decker, David Pell and Sean Finning.
Then, throw in the interstate stars such as Brett Aitken, Luke Davison, Gene Bates and the Meyer brothers from Western Australia and we have a galaxy of national talent.
It’s a recipe for an enthralling three days of racing for our cyclists which will culminate with the 200 lap Bendigo International Madison at the Tom Flood Sports Centre on Sunday night.
Also this weekend we welcome the best full bore shooters for the coveted 133rd Queen’s Prize Shoot at the Wellsford Range.
Bendigo’s Geoff Grenfell is among the 200 entries for the prestigious event which is conducted over three days and the ultimate winner will be chaired from the range late on Monday afternoon.
Grenfell will also be joining 20 of the nation’s top marksmen this Tuesday for the Australia Cup match.
The cup will be used as a qualifying event for the Commonwealth Games and is sure to produce some high scoring on the range with national selection at stake.
Add to this the local cricket semi final clashes and the lawn bowls contest between Golden Square and Eaglehawk and it all shapes up for a spectacular weekend.
