Information centre tops $1m of bookings

BENDIGO’S Visitor Information Centre this week celebrated the booking of $1 million through its booking system for last year.
City of Greater Bendigo Tourism executive manager Kathryn Mackenzie said the move to an online booking system was driven by the need to respond to the growing expectations of visitors.
In August, 2006 a new-look website for www.bendigotourism.com was released which included an online booking system.
This offered visitors to the region an opportunity to book real-time accommodation, tours and tickets to major festivals and events in Bendigo at any time of the day or night.
“It is a significant milestone for the staff at the centre, with an increase of just over $250,000 from the previous annual benchmark,” Ms Mackenzie said.
“Our staff and systems are in place to facilitate the bookings for the local tourism industry.
“The money goes directly into tourism-related business across the city and I thank staff and volunteers for their efforts to achieve this for the industry.”
Ms Mackenzie said the role of the VIC was to provide visitors with experiences to enjoy and to encourage them to stay longer in the region and to spend more and add to the local economy.
