Logo revamp launches Y into the next 100 years
THE Bendigo Regional YMCA has kicked off its 100th birthday celebrations by unveiling a new logo for the festivities.
New Bendigo YMCA chief executive officer Rod Wee Hee launched the new logo at a special ceremony on Wednesday night.
He said he was excited about the year ahead and keen to include everyone in the celebrations.
“I feel very fortunate to enter this position at such an important milestone for the organisation,” he said.
“The 100-year anniversary of the YMCA in Bendigo provides opportunities for us to recognise and reward past staff, members and volunteers.
“At the same time we will be looking forward to another 100 years of being actively involved in our community.”
Senior Y Service Club member Ian Randall and five-year-old Hannah Ilsley unveiled the logo, to represent the history and the future of the organisation.
Mr Wee Hee and the centenary committee aimed to represent the balance between the old and the new in the centenary logo.
“While maintaining respect for where the YMCA has come from, this branding expresses the Y launching into the next 100 years of service,” he said.
“It is also very important to us that the centenary branding conveys fun.
“We intend to have a lot of fun over the next several months.”
Highlights of the centenary celebrations will include celebrating the Y’s involvement in the community through events such as the Bendigo Easter Festival, the Relay for Life and the Bendigo Agricultural Show.
There will also be a ‘Back to the Y’ dance, a family day, a gala dinner, and a youth-coordinated event.
“These events are our way of saying thank you to our staff, our volunteers, our business partners and supporters, our members and our community,” Mr Wee Hee said.
