Lachlan takes the top prize for Strathfieldsaye Cricket Club
Strathfieldsaye cricketer Lachlan Howard has won his club $10,000 in cash after winning a national competition over the summer. It’s a big bonus for the cricket club which next summer will have a new cricket ground and training facilities as well as the use of state-of-the-art community clubrooms at the Strathfieldsaye Sporting Complex. Lachlan has been playing cricket for just three years and his dad was lucky enough to be filming him bowling at Eaglehawk when he captured the magical hat trick. That saw him become a finalist in the nationwide HOME Timber and Hardware Home Grown Sporting Moments competition. Hume & Iser managing director Stephen Iser said it’s a big thrill to have such a major prize come to our city. “All our staff got right behind the promotion and we provided numbers for people to vote for Lachlan,” Mr Iser said. “This will be a great boost to the Strathfieldsaye Cricket Club and it’s a great result for Bendigo.” The Strathfieldsaye Cricket Club membership all got together and used their vast network to get the community to register their phone or SMS votes for the magic video as well as extensive coverage of the competition in the Bendigo Weekly. The 14-year-old is a Year 8 student at Creek Street Christian College and he got a phone call at school to advise him of his win. “It was a big surprise to get the phone call and all my friends have been absolutely rapt about the win,” Lachlan said. “To get to the finals and then to win the ultimate prize has just been amazing. “It will certainly help develop more infrastructure at our new recreation reserve. “The community of Strathfieldsaye really got behind the competition and it is just great that we have won the $10,000,’’ Lachlan said.
