Lifeline in desperate call for volunteers
By News Report
You have the capacity to make the difference in a person's life
LIFELINE Bendigo has put out a “desperate” call for volunteers to help manage its rising call numbers.
Between 55 and 75 volunteers take more than 10,00 calls a year from across central Victoria at the Bendigo call centre.
Lifeline’s Clive Custance said he was looking for about 25 more volunteers to enable the centre handle all the calls.
“Every volunteer goes through 13 weeks of training,” he said.
“We’ve got about 56 at the moment and we would love a few more.
“The training is excellent and we provide excellent support, especially while they are on the phones taking calls.”
Mr Custance said volunteers got a lot out of donating their time to the worthy cause.
“It is a really meaningful experience,” he said.
“You have the capacity to make a difference in a person’s life, regularly.”
Volunteers are required for one three-and-a-quarter-hour shift per week and one night shift a month.
Those interested in volunteering can attend an information night on Wednesday, April 2 at the RL Campbell Theatrette at the Bendigo library from 6.30 pm.
For more information, contact the Lifeline office on 5443 1330.
If you need to speak to a Lifeline counsellor, call 13 11 14.
