Seventy years of married life
By News Report
Happy together
When the statisticians tell us we will move seven times in our lives, they hadn’t factored in the Ah Dores.
Henry and Florence lived in their Gundry Street, Long Gully, home from 1938 until 2007.
That’s a staggering 69 years and surely must be a record for the telephone, power and water companies as well.
But when the friends and relatives of Henry and Florence meet next weekend, the celebrations are for their platinum wedding anniversary – that’s 70 years of marriage.
Florence May Kee Yung of Maiden Gully, married Joseph Henry Ah Dore of Elmore in St Judes Methodist Church in Upper Road, on April 30, 1938.
Their minister was Mr William Coleman Jones.
While the couple had no children, they kept their wide circle of friends and relatives very close.
Each Friday morning at 10am, Floss and Henry were visited by their many friends for morning tea at their home.
The tradition still continues as their loved ones now call in to Amity house for their weekly cuppa and chat.
