BENDIGO Health emergency department staff will now be able to quickly and more accurately assess patients thanks to the Tattersall’s Foundation. The foundation has helped the hospital purchase a $65,000 mobile ultrasound. Director of emergency medicine Saloman Zalstein said the mobile ultrasound machine was the most up-to-date equipment available of its type. “I can’t believe how fortunate our emergency department team is to receive this donation. Several of our doctors are already trained in using the ultrasound, while others are currently undergoing upskilling to use it,” he said. “This type of state-of-the-art technology assists us in managing patients who have been involved in accidents who may have internal damage. “We can locate veins in the neck and arms that are currently hard to locate, or find foreign bodies such as splinters in children that would now require them to go to surgery. “It is a very welcome addition to our emergency department and will be invaluable in helping to save lives.” Bendigo Health chief executive officer also John Mulder thanked Tattersalls. “Although this equipment assists our clinical staff, it’s the Bendigo community that benefits from this donation, the better equipped our hospital becomes, the more complex problems our doctors can treat,” he said. “We are truly grateful to the Tattersall’s Foundation for again helping Bendigo Health to buy medical equipment.”
