Connor and family to benefit from fundraiser
PREPARATIONS are well under way for a charity auction to raise money for Connor O’Sullivan and his family. Last year Connor was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia. Connor’s 12-year old sister Holly is severely autistic and requires intensive around-the-clock care. For most of the past year, Connor and his parents Michael and Carolyn have been holed up at the Royal Children’s Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile the family’s life has been put on hold as bills mount. When Connor was diagnosed, Carolyn gave up working as a nurse and Michael has worked as best he can around hospital admissions and setbacks. He has now taken leave from his work without pay. Friends of the family, including at the Bendigo Special Development School, have joined together to put on a charity auction at the Boundary Hotel on May 28. Bendigo’s business community has responded in style, with more than 60 items so far donated for auction. Some of the items available for auction include a Melbourne luxury getaway package valued at $500 donated by the Holiday Inn on Flinders, Airtime on Southern Cross TEN ($1500) and radio station 3BO ($1000), Bendigo Weekly advertisements, a barbecue donated by Bendigo Wood Stoves and Heating and $500 worth of Jimmy Possum Furniture. There are art and craft auction items, petrol vouchers, jewellery and clothing vouchers, something for the children as well as entertainment and music items. The city’s furniture and home and leisure businesses have also come to the fore, with almost 20 items in that category up for auction. There are also items available for the gardener, home handyman, those who like to look good, exercise, or just watch sport. Tickets are $20 a head and are available from the Eaglehawk Post Office, Tweed Sutherland First National and the Bendigo Weekly offices in Bridge Street. The evening will begin at 7pm.
