Empowering Eaglehawk kicked off its Merry Month of May campaign by distributing $11,000 to local groups. The Eaglehawk business network received $500 towards the recently published visitor guide. Seeds Bendigo received $3500 towards its program to give young Eaglehawk males positive activities to put their energy into rather than negative past times. Eaglehawk playgroup will be given up to $4000 to erect shade sails for the children and California Gully primary school will receive up to $3000 for its Friendly Free Time initiative. Empowering Eaglehawk committee member Phill Kerr said the latest hand over took the total amount awarded to the community to over $50,000. Phill said so far 500 individuals and groups have pledged their support for the cause, however the aim was to reach 600 by June and 1000 by the end of the year. “We’ve got a concerted effort on to try and get 100 pledges by the end of this month,” he said. “We’re doing a street walk in the neighbourhoods of Eaglehawk this Saturday morning just to get out there and meet people. “We’ll also be in the Bendigo Bank’s Eaglehawk branch on May 16.” The most fun for the community will be a movie night at the Star Cinema on Thursday, May 29, featuring the film Dan in Real Life. People can pledge their support for Empowering Eaglehawk on the night, and for everyone who does so, the tickets will be $10, rather than $15. The film starts at 6.15 and supper will be provided, with drinks at bar prices. Tickets and pledge forms are available by contacting Jodi on 5446 8511. Money for Empowering Eaglehawk is generated in three ways. People can align their Bendigo Bank or Bendigo Community Telco accounts with Empowering Eaglehawk or make a donation through the Community Enterprise Foundation. Empowering Eaglehawk then earns a commission from the business of every supporter.
