Young charges
AFTER finishing second on the ladder last season the Strath Eagles are looking for another successful run.
The Under 14 Division 1 Girls basketball team, coached by Hayley Bolton, are on the right track
having lost only one of their grading games this season.
The team members are all 12 years old and attend Flora Hill Secondary, Catholic College La Valla and Girton Grammer schools.
Speaking to player Dannie Hoiles, it’s easy to see why the Strath Eagles are a strong side.
“The best thing about our team is that we work as a team, we are there for each other and we’ve been playing together for four years,” Dannie said.
I asked her who her greatest influence is and she replied: “Hayley Bolton.”
Their coach led them to a one point victory in the grand final last season, which Dannie said was her most memorable game.
When I asked Dannie what else she does to keep fit she laughed and said: “Any other sport.”
“I am currently working on my left hand layups and I would consider my strengths to my dribbling.
“Basketball can be challenging sometimes, but it’s a lot of fun.”
