World championship basketballer Kristi Harrower has arrived back in town to prepare for the Beijing Olympics.
The former Bendigo Braves star has just completed a season with Ekaterinburg which plays in both the Russian League and the Euro competition.
Her focus this week has been to relax with family and friends before embarking on another strenuous Olympic campaign. “I won’t have much time off as the Olympics are just around the corner and I am looking at getting myself in to super shape for those games,” Kristi said.
“My first training camp with the Opals squad will be on
June 5 in Cairns.
“The camp will run for five days and then return home for five days and then it is off to Italy to play a three-game series against Russia.”
The Australian team for the Olympic campaign will be named on July 2.
There could be some new faces in the Opals team that won the gold medal at the World Championships in 2006.
It will be another big year for Kristi. As well as playing a major role with the Opals she has secured a contract to return to Russia later this year.
