Corstens defies odds to double up at Steel Plate

Lamaro lines pockets of punters at Bendigo track

Veteran trainer Leon Corstens scored a winning double at the Bendigo races and stable followers had some big collects.
Early in the day there was wild cheering as Lamaro led all the way in the McKern Steel Plate carrying 58 kilos.
For trainer Leon Corstens it was a sweet victory at nice odds of 40/1.
“He flew the barriers and jockey Jamie Mott had no option than to go to the front and dictate terms,” Corstens said.
“The horse is by Helissio and will appreciate a longer journey and I put the pacifiers on him and he relaxes well now and I think we’ll stick with these type of races in the coming months and see what happens.”
The veteran trainer was smiling again later in the day when another of his stable stars Cockerelli saluted in the J. M. Leech Showcase giving stable backers a very handy result with the bookies.
People close to the action
said one prominent owner backed Lamaro and then went “all up”
on Cockerelli which started at 25/1. It all happens in the sport of kings.
