The Café Roubaix Summer Series continues to attract strong fields and large crowds to Mayfair Park for a feast of quality cycling action.
Last week, the wily Michael Smyth broke through for his first win of the season, holding off veteran Steve Flood and the persistent Mat ‘Roo Boy’ Runnalls. Runnalls leads the Ronde Gloves C Grade aggregate by two points from Smyth (28 points) and Tom Floyd (22 points).
In the Hume and Iser B Grade race, Oscar Stevenson was rewarded for his strong and aggressive riding with a win over the largest field of the day. The large field of 35 riders also included Brad McCallum and Nick Gates, who finished second and third respectively.
Owen Deacon (32 points) leads the B Grade aggregate from Ash Harding (30 points), with McCallum in third place on 27 points.
The Symes Motors A Grade riders took advantage of a smaller field missing some guns, while the extreme heat saw the race shortened to 45 minutes plus three laps. Luke Knox showed no ill effects from his recent Wangaratta wheel race win to race to victory again, ahead of
Jeremy McInnes and Tim Hucker.
Jarrod Hartley (24 points) is leading the A Grade aggregate ahead of Darren Lapthorne (22 points) and Mark Flood (22 points).
Racing continues this Sunday at Mayfair Park.
