Bendigo could be on the cusp of a sailing revolution.
Bendigo Yacht Club’s Ralph Chant said the Bendigo-made  Formula 16 Viper catamaran could potentially be the class for the 2016 Olympics.
“There’s going to be a trial in Spain next month, and the Viper is likely to become the class for the Olympics,” he said.
“That would be a huge boost for Bendigo, both in kudos and in employment.”

He said the  Viper showed its potential at the club’s Bendigo Match Race Regatta over the weekend, which drew around 200 people for the two day event, which featured eight competitors from a mixture of cities, shires and yacht clubs from around the world and interstate.
“From the semi finals onwards, the competition was very intense and of a very high class,” he said.
“With the success of the Viper, this event can only go from strength to strength.”
Troup won the Match Racing Shield.
