Grassroots football in Bendigo will be strengthened by a new junior footy competition that’s hoped will unearth the next Joel Selwood and Dustin Martin.
The AFL9s, held from February 10 to March 16, is a new nine-a-side, non contact game for both girls and boys aged between nine and 14.
The new game, including an 11 and Under, 14 and Under and female only division, is intended to create a pathway for kids not currently signed up with a local club
The first game kicks off at Mason Oval (next to Bell Oval, Strathdale) from February 10 from 4.45pm.
As an extra incentive, the junior club that creates the most teams for the Bendigo competition will receive 40 Kelly Sports footballs, while the top school will receive $150 worth of sporting equipment and a visit from an AFL player.
All female participants will get a free football.
