BENDIGO Art Gallery’s Grace Kelly Style Icon exhibition has now reached over 85,000 tickets sold, breaking all previous records for exhibition attendance.
The previous exhibition record at Bendigo Art gallery was 75,000 for the Golden Age of Couture in 2010.
Extraordinarily, the exhibition has only just reached its half way point, with the gallery anticipating visitation will continue to increase, particularly in the closing weeks.
As a sign of its popularity, the exhibition sold out all ticketed sessions for Saturday, April 28, prior to opening.
Gallery director Karen Quinlan said the attendances were comparable to larger galleries.
“The exhibition has been an unprecedented success and we have been very heartened by the interest and strong word-of-mouth that has generated these outstanding attendances,” she said.
“With over 2000 people attending last Saturday, these attendances would be encouraging even for a state gallery.
“As a consequence, some gallery goers who arrived last Saturday without pre-booked tickets were unable to attend the exhibition.
“We are strongly encouraging visitors to book in advance; we do not wish anyone to be disappointed.”
