‘Twas The Year Before Christmas

‘Twas the year before Christmas, when all through the town,
Lots of things were happening, and water restrictions went down

We lost Bishop Joe, a man who did care,
His loss would be great, and difficult to bear.

Parents and children then nestled in their seats,
As a bunch of star cricketers gave us a treat.

Mamma Nature in her ‘kerchief then sent down a flood,
Which inundated houses with water and mud.

Then, out of really nowhere, with barely a warn,
It appeared before our eyes – a new theatre was born.
Out in the mall there arose such a clatter,
But policemen were quick, and calmed down the matter.

The moon shone brightly on the White Wedding Show
As record numbers of people, by sure, they did go.

When, what to my eyes should I see disappear,
But Councillor Cox, to a gasp and a jeer.

Fed up with everything, he was looking to blame,
He whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, James! Now, Liacos! Now, Reynard and Sandner!
Phillips! And Lyons, Lisa and mayor!
“We don’t need this carpark, I tell ya it’s gonna,
Be useless to all, especially the Borough.”

And then, in a twinkling, we heard that the grounds,
And buildings at Fortuna will stay locked like a pound.

The city will struggle to keep it alive,
Let’s hope there’s more luck with the stunning Beehive.

And then in a twinkling, the year was all done,
The Spirit a dollar, they haven’t a one.

We look forward to next year, with a cleared hospital site.
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
