THALES Australia has marked its 75th year in Bendigo by commissioning a special artwork from local artist Robert Milton.
The organisation celebrated the milestone at its North Bendigo facility yesterday, with the Bushmaster and Hawkei armoured vehicles front and centre in the piece.
The projects have been key in maintaining Thales’ position of recent years as a major manufacturer in Bendigo.
The artwork also shows other stages of work at the North Bendigo site, which began in 1943 in the manufacturing of artillery gun barrels.
Established as one of several sites by the federal government in the 1940s, the Bendigo facility is the only one to have opened during World War II still in operation today.
The company also recognised several workers who have been at the Bendigo site for more than 40 years as part of the celebration.
