BENDIGO’s water polo community is celebrating a major milestone by hosting this weekend’s Victorian Country Water Polo  Championships.

Teams from across the state will be in action at the Bendigo Aquatic Centre as the local teams battle regional Victoria’s best for the right to be crowned country champions.

It comes as the club celebrates its 40th year of competition in Bendigo since reforming in 1978. The sport has been contested in Bendigo since the 1920s.

Thirteen teams will be in action across the weekend, with eight men’s and five women’s sides lining up.

The 2018 Victorian Country Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Bendigo Aquatic Centre.
