A new bar boasting a line-up of rollicking blues, comfy couches and plenty of craft beer, is set to pop up in a surprising location next month.
The Bendigo Beer Pop Up Bar is a new and unique venue for this year’s Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival, running November 7-10.
Ready to entertain the crowd are east coast three-piece Two River Blues.
The cranking acoustic blues act – featuring Matt Southon on guitar and vocals, Matt Elliott on drums, washboard and vocals and Declan Kenrick on harmonica – are sure to get the crowd rocking at the bar’s opening night on Thursday 7 November.
Southon said punters could expect “real, raw blues” from his band’s first ever BBRMF appearance.
“Anyone who likes music getting done on the spot, with high energy and lots of sweat and goofing off should make sure they come along,” he said.
“Mostly our audience are people who are much older than MTV and can remember real stuff, and Sunbury!”
Also gracing the pop up stage will be Bendigo folkster Joel English, one man band Rattlin Bones Blackwood, bush bluesman Archer and the Long Gone Daddies, plus many more.
Bendigo Beer’s Scott Seymour said the group would be bringing the blues to the blue warehouse next to the Good Loaf Sourdough Bakery on Hargreaves Street.
“Pop-up bars have proved very popular in Melbourne and other parts of the world so we thought; why not bring the experience to Bendigo?”
“The premise is to take an urban space and turn it into something different and inspiring.”
Mr Seymour said the bar would exist for just the four days of the festival.
“We will be installing a temporary stage and lighting and using donated couches and furniture to deck out the space,” he said.
“It will have a real industrial feel with a few of the pleasures of home, if your home is a cosy pub with live music.
“Of course there will be craft beers on offer with selected local wines and pre-mixed spirits at the bar.
“But the real focus will be the music, with an incredible line-up of talent over the four days.”
