BENDIGO Spirit’s star import from the 2018/19 Women’s National Basketball League season, Becca Tobin, has signed on for another stint with the Bendigo side.

Tobin was impressive in her first WNBL season, finishing in the league’s top 10 for blocks, steals, rebounds and field goal percentage, having 14 games in double figures and seven double doubles.

She was also featured in the WNBL team of the week four times, and finished third in the running for defensive player of the year, and seventh in voting for league MVP.

Head Coach Tracy York was direct when asked about re-signing Tobin, describing her as a standout in the WNBL.

“She moves like a guard, works hard at both ends of the floor and can score at will. Most importantly, Becca is a great person and has clearly embraced the Bendigo community, lifestyle and vision for success.”

Tobin is playing in Germany and will return to Bendigo in the coming weeks to play in the NBL1 competition with the Braves and remains full of praise for Bendigo.

“I’m in love with Bendigo. The community has been so supportive and accepting of me and the home crowds really do love the Spirit. I can’t wait to get back to Bendigo and settle in for the next 10 months or so,” she said.

With free agency in full swing for the WNBL, the focus on signing talent is now ramping up for coach York and Tobin is understood to be the first of many expected signings for the Spirit in the next month.
